D Sports Med, I was referred to Prof. Dr. Espregueira Mendes, with the understanding that his clinic was one of the leading facilities in the industry to perform the ACL reconstruction that I needed.

Initially, I was a little apprehensive of having such complicated surgery in a foreign country. However, my concerns were soon put to rest after speaking with the professor and dealing with his staff, who all spoke English.

Prof. Dr. Espregueira Mendes was always very understanding of my situation and always tried to keep me informed with all the relevant information and made every effort to answer my questions.

The surgery took place at the Hospital de Santa Maria, Porto. After travelling up from the Algarve by train I was greeted at the hospital by the Professor's assistant to help me check in and find my room. The Hospital was very clean, had friendly staff, good food and seemed very modern.

The operating theatre was very impressive and all the doctors who worked with me were very friendly and professional. While in surgery I received a full bone-patella-bone graft ACL reconstruction, medial and lateral partial meniscectomies and micro fractures on the condyle lesion were repaired.

Prof. Dr. Espregueira Mendes seems to have done a great job on my knee, the wound is tidy and there are no signs of infection. He has also made it clear he wants to be sure my recovery is complete and will help with anything that I need in the future.

I would certainly recommend Prof. Dr. Espregueira Mendes and his team to anyone looking for this kind of surgery in Europe.

ACL surgery is not something any sportsman ever wants to deal with but I now feel confident that I chose the right surgeon."
